Richmond Law Students Triumph in Mock Trial and Essay Competitions

Richmond Law's team of students won the National Labor and Employment Mock Trial Competition in Chicago over the weekend of January 24. Team members Jeannine Panzera, Scott Jones, Kristen Wright and Hank Gates defeated the University of Oregon in the competition's final round. In earlier rounds they also won against teams from Southern Methodist University, Roger Williams and Duquesne. A total of 69 schools competed in the competition. Adjunct Professor of Law and Director of Special Programs Paul Thompson was their coach.

Second-year Richmond Law student David McGill is the author of the first place winning essay in the 11th writing competition sponsored by the GRAMMY Foundation and the Entertainment Law Initiative (ELI). Along with a scholarship award, McGill is invited to present one of his essays, "New Year, New Catch-22: Why The RIAA's Proposed Partnership With ISPs Will Not Significantly Decrease The Prevalence Of P2P Music File Sharing," at the prestigious ELI Luncheon & Scholarship Presentation on February 6 and to attend the GRAMMY awards the following evening.
